Automatic feedback/payment reminders

6/11/2009 20:28
Hi All,

Today I have marked payment received for a couple of buyers.
Tonight I see that feedback has been left and it was not by me as I have not posted the articles as yet and have a system I follow to make sure nothing is missed.

Feedback must have been left automatically.
Also I see that a sale that is only 3 days old has had a payment reminder sent and I have not done that as I give buyers 7 days to pay.

Is this the new way?
Do these things get done automatically?
Do we not have the right to run our on ebay selling?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Cheers

I can't comment on the feedback bit but I had a payment reminder today from ebay not the seller , for a pickup only item won on Wednesday , which I paid for and picked up yesterday and feedback was left by seller and myself last night.

Message read - Hi hervey_bay,
Thanks for your recent purchase on eBay! Please remember to pay for your item so that the seller can ship it to you as soon as possible.
Thanks again for shopping on eBay!

I've never had that before so I assume this is ebays way of prodding buyers into paying , however a reminder inside of 7 days I find somewhat intrusive .

I'll go have a look at my notification preferences and see if I can lose it from there .

I've had the same problem with eBay automatically sending payment reminders.

I know it is an option under selling manager pro, but I'm not using that.

They sent one customer 2 this morning (30 sec apart), and sent one to another customer this afternoon.

The customers had only bought the items a few days ago, so I definitely wasn't going to send a reminder.

This is a real pain in the bum, I had to e-mail both customers and apologize, as I didn't want them to think i was some sort of impatient idiot.

I hope someone at eBay reads this thread and sorts it out ASAP.

There are 3 new emails that eBay are automatically sending out. Sellers don't have the option to turn them off or edit them unfortunately..

Thanks for your replies.

But ebay should not be able to leave feedback for us.
That is our prerogative.

I have been getting them automatically too and I am definitely not happy. In the case of 2 of the sellers I was bidding on further items tonight. The third one was a bank deposit, which for some reason seems to be taking longer to go through than usual....it was done 24 hours after the auction and as yet (another 48 hours) the seller has not notified me that she has received it. I am not worried, and I am sure she is not either.

I am very much afraid that if sellers have no control over ebay sending these reminders they will find some very irate buyers, especially if they have already told the seller that they are still bidding.

Just great! .... not!

How are these reminders showing up on the sellers end? Does it state 'payment reminder' in the email heading?.

hi Deb, Im not sure what the buyer sees..

this is part of what my buyer wrote me....
Thanks for sending me the email reminder. I have just transferred payment via Bank Deposit, with reference----

i immediately thanked her, said it was an automatic eBay email, not from me, Im not that anxious after just 3days, and I'll post her item early next week.

The Cheek of eBay, I am so annoyed, it was sent out 3 days (to the minute by my guessing). after auction.

Apparently they are being sent out the payment reminders by the ebay system 48 hours after buyer has bought a item.

We cannot edit the message or turn it off as it is blacked out.

I have had buyers emailing today who have actually paid and item has been posted and they are getting the reminders.

I find it SO embarrassing to be honest as we give our buyers up to 10 days to pay 7 is our preferred.

They also send a automated winner email BUT we can edit that one.

Im not having any issues with feedback but leave it as soon as payment received so wouldnt notice the difference.

I have noticed the buyers who have paid by BD are the ones getting the reminders and when we open up the transaction it is not showing as payment received yet it has been.

I think I've worked out why this is being done.

Remember what the new UID annoncement said about shortening the dispute time & automating some features?

It's now only 4 days to be able to open a non pay dispute, so that's why they are probably sending out reminders in 48 hours on our behalf.

I don't like it because I had decided I am still going to give my customers up to 7 days to pay.

Just a thought. I'm going to include a note in my end of auction emails telling the winner if they receice a payment reminder before 7 days after the auction that it was NOT from me, but automatically sent by ebay, & that sellers can not turn the feature off.

Please be aware that eBay now send out reminders after 48hours for auctions not paid. I am very happy to give my buyers a week to pay, so if you get such a reminder on day 2 it is from eBay NOT from me !
