wedding dresses

8/11/2009 01:29
hi everyone
has anyone here bought a wedding/prom dress from china i was wondering about the quality of them, im having trouble finding something i like that suits me and i was interested in a couple i saw on ebay for my wedding,

the price of them seem very cheap but i assume the postage makes up for the cost, the feedback ive read seems to be ok just wondered what people think of them and how i can protect myself against anything going wrong eg. it taking more than 45 days to arrive

also ive asked a seller a couple of questions and the replys ive received have been in chinese how can i translate it to english
with thanks

Hi possum4040, nice to see you back here asking for help. Just give us a chance and we will sort out your whole wedding for you. I think we made a good start on the engagement ring. lol

Personally I would not buy something as important as a wedding dress from a Chinese seller.

If you search through the boards you will find there are plenty of problems with the dresses not fitting and colour problems. I saw one poor bride here asking what to do when her order was messed up. Her dress did not fit (I also think it was the wrong "white") She had ordered 5? bridesmaid dresses and they were all the wrong colour and several of them did not fit. She did not have enough time to redo her order so was stuck with a large order that was no good to her and having to come up with something here at short notice.

hi lyndal
lol you dont want to organise it for me do you im starting to think elopeing sounds really good,

we are getting married on the 1st may ive got so much to organise and no time to do it.
i only get 2 days and 2 nights off of work a fortnight and thats on a weekend,

i really dont want to get stuck with a dress that is no good, do you or anyone know of a seller here in australia thats not too expensive who you could recomend, i can only seem to find dresses from china,

we are having the wedding and reception at our home i dont want anything too formal as its going to be very casual (well i hope it will be) the guest list has hit 40 and is still rising,

the kids (we have 10 between us) are trying to help, but im finding it is easier to do it myself

Oh heavens, don't let 10 sets of fingers in the pie...you will never get things organised! lol How old are they? Could the older ones be of any real help, like checking out caterers during the week, looking for cake decorators? There is a lady on ebay who does spectacular cakes but I do not know where she is or where you are. I also know a decorator here in Sydney, but have a feeling you are not here?

I cannot help you with dresses I'm afraid. My cousin is a dressmaker so I have my special dresses made by her....not that there will be many more now as all my family are married now.

I am sure you will find a few posters who can help though. I am often surprised at the depth of different talent that is to be found on the boards. There is usually someone who can help with any problem you run into. Just wait till the daytime....not everyone is a nightowl like me. lol

Can you give us some information about what you need? :)

Your dress - style? Do you want white? Cream? red? etc .. size?

bridesmaids? style, length, colours, sizes etc

Where are you located? Do you want new or are you happy to buy pre-loved?

There are some excellent Chines sellers of wedding dresses but unfortunately there are far more shonky ones.

Before the general influx of hoards of Chinese there were only a few and it was easy to tell from the glowing feedback which were the good ones.

Now I am not sure it is worth taking the risk, even though the whole payment, including postage is covered by Paypal if the item arrives and is not as described you are going to have the added expense of returning it to say nothing of the fact your money is tied up in Paypal waiting it out.

Have you looked in the charity shops, I have seen what would probably be some beautiful dresses hanging there looking sad but would be perfect if they were professionally cleaned.

Are you happy to buy second hand? If so, there are heaps of dresses that brides are selling on here. You may be lucky to find someone nearby who will let you try on.

If you are happy to have a coloured dress (rather than white) you open up a whole area of cheaper dresses. You could even look for a bridesmaid dress or formal dress (and there are a lot of dresses around now, that they haven't sold for the spring races).

Possum, where are you located? My daughter got married last year and bought her dress from a bridal and formal shop for $150.00. It was perfect for her style and I thought it was a great price. This store is located on Logan Road at Mt Gravatt, Queensland. Just up the road a bit from the huge Garden City shopping complex, on the left hand side. Of course if your not from SE Qld my description means nothing.:^O

Here you go, my first search brought up all china even though i ticked located IN australia, went back and saw that that box was unticked and available TO australia was ticked instead, i did NOT tick that.

But here are your wedding dresses IN australia.

well ages ago i bought a dress from china, of course it didn't look like the picture which i had figured it wouldn't but the fit was perfect, so i took off the tacky red roses and sewed my own silver ribbon butterflies on there, looked great :) that was back in the day when i gave a neutral and i got a neg :O oh well!

I would check the link shc has posted, would be quicker to get one from Aus too! good luck with everything :)

Hi and congrats to you.

Many of the photos look absolutely beautiful - but just check out the feedback.

Yes and many of the sellers are charging posting well over $100.00
where you should only be paying something along the lines of $40.00 per kilo if sent by ems.

If i was you - really read what the add says - especially the small print
where it says - this photo is for illustration purposes only - the garment you will receive may be different from the item photographed.

so ask the question to the seller - is this the exact item that i will be buying

have a great day and goodluck

Possum,as this board is limited to 20 posts per thread, may I suggest posting on the Community Spirit board? There are some amazingly talented people there from all over Australia PLUS lots of really knowledgeable & creative members-you are sure to receive a gazillion responses/suggestions/offers.

Personally,if I ever got married-MacDonalds,pay for yourself & wear whatever:^O:^O:^O

i dont want white and was actually thinking of maybe a dusty rose i think the colour is called or something like that
im only having 1 bridesmaid basically she is a long time friend and will be 1 of our witnesses, (i figured that 1 friend instead of having to choose between our 5 daughters was better for my health,
we are having a sand ceremony to signify our two familys coming together we have ordered a sand ceremony kit and each of our children will put a layer of sand in the bottle my partner will put in the first layer and myself the last with our children in between
