You best keep them apart Queen :(

Contact with other cats is the main source of viral spread, but the Herpes and Calici viruses can survive in the open air for up to a week, so a cat sniffing a bush can get the virus from the cat who sneezed on it a couple of days ago. Boarding, moving house and fights with other cats are all sources of stress which can reactivate a cat's own viruses. Or they can contact the virus on any number of surfaces.

Your other cats have probably been exposed:(

Keep them separated for now, though, just in case.

Pity the vet didn't think to advise you.

I hope he has a full recovery:-x

Its EXTREMELY contagious and cats need to be vaccinated, your other cats need to be unless the vet says its too late! Cat flu kills young kittens by the litter and elderly cats usually succumb to this illness too. If you have ever witnessed a kitten with cat flu and it hasn't broke your heart then I'm afraid you don't have one!

Queen I hope the vet has caught it in time!

Thanks I think I will have to keep them apart from each other.

He hasnt been near a bush, he is an inside cat only and has a cat pen under the verandah as well as having the run of the whole house. . The only contact he has had with other cats apart from his brother cats at home is at the vets last week.

From the same article Queen :)

Flu vaccination in cats, therefore, is defined as successful if a vaccinated cat shows 50 percent less clinical signs when infected than a cat that has not been vaccinated. So what is the point of vaccination? Well, it does not mean the cat will not get flu, but it does mean it will not die from it.

More than likely it will be a mild dose then, maybe a cat has entered your property at night and wandered onto your verandah who knows?

Hope alls well for poor puss!

No cats are game to come near our place as we have four dogs.

Yes I have had our 23 year old cat since he was 6 weeks old. He is a part persian ginger boy. Never has been good at grooming himself so I have to do that for him now. He is a great cat and quite an institution in our family as he is very placid and is happy for anyone including small childrrn to pick him up and cuddle him. I love him to bits. The kids have left but the cat hasnt!

Queen, 2 of my cats just recently succumbed to F.I.P. which is highly contagious - initially the vets thought it was flu.

Please have your cats get a blood test to diagnose.

What is F>I>P please?

I am so worried about my Midas boy. He is such a special cat. I got him and his brother when they were 6 weeks old. They had been bottle fed from two weeks old. He was the oldest in a litter of 7 kittens and the mother was too young and didnt have enough milk to feed them.

He loves other cats. He was the instigator in antagonising a tiger snake which his very meek and mild brother cat Misty got bitten by and died from the bite. Well we had to have Misty put to sleep.

It traumatised Midas so much he refused to eat.

He missed his brother so much and almost died. The vet told us to get another kitteneand maybe he would then find the will to live.

So we got another kitten which he just adored and all was well except we spent big money on buying a portable cat cage and our cats have never been allowed outside since then.

Anyway Midas has isolated himself in the sunny spare bedroom so I put a litter tray in there and some food.

The vet says if he goes off his food he will dehydrate very quickly. He has eaten well and we have given him his meds tonight and he is much the same health wise.

I have spent most of the day shut in with him just talking and stroking him and willing him to survive.

You are doing the right thing by spending time with him.:-x

I nursed a kitten a long time ago that had cat flu, he was only a few weeks old, I stayed with him day and night, just held him and willed him to get better, which he did.

Even if the worse comes to pass, you will be so thankful that you have spent this time with him.:-x

My very best wishes to you.♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
